At Shroud Cay and in all the other island areas you learn how to "read" the water. Hopefully you can see it from this photo. The darker the area, the deeper the water. The lighter, then, is the shallowest. It is just amazing to see one area with about 3 or 4 different shades of blue! Beautiful beyond words!

One of the beaches. Just look at that blue! |
|
This was one of the hills that we climbed up. It was a great hike and lots of great exercise! Several discoveries were made along the way: |
|
We found the box where you pay for the mooring ball. We discovered it by accident. It was at the top of the first part of the hill and could not be seen from our boat. |
|
|
|
We discovered quite a few holes on the hike up the hill. |
|
|
We had to watch our every step to avoid
falling into one of these.
|
We discovered this sign leading to a well. |
We ventured up the hill where the
arrows directed us.
We eventually came to the well. It had
a large opening into the ground and the water was pretty far below.
There was a bucket nearby to hall up the fresh water. It looked
scummy and neither of us cared to take a drink. I am told after the
fact, that it is safe to drink. (Brings to mind the well where Jesus talked to a Samaritan woman.) Someone also told us later that they knew someone who
did their laundry at the well. I wish I had thought of that!
Although hauling 2 loads of our laundry up a hill doesn't really
appeal to me. It would solve our clothes washing issue of using up
our fresh water for this purpose. Perhaps, if we had known about it,
we could have hauled a couple jugs of water back to the boat. Oh
well, next time. It would be cheaper than using a laundry mat at
$2.00 a load for wash and $3.00 a load for dry and that's the less
expensive ones.

A sign by the well in an effort to keep the water pure. |
|
A photo of just a part of the well. |
I had to try the bucket out.
|
Voila! A bucket full! |
|
This area must have been underwater many moons ago which is crazy to think about since we are standing on a hill above the whole island! There are small shells like this everywhere. |

The end of a very busy day! Next..........
