Nassau #2

Ed surprised me with a cake for my birthday!  He used the same candle I used on his birthday muffins!   I made my wish (not telling!)
This is the marina we stayed at in Nassau.  Nassau Harbor Club.  It once had a nice hotel on the property.  Now there is only half of  it left which looked pretty nice - the other half needed a lot of renovation, which they were working on.

This is the Atlantis Hotel lit up at night.

We ate dinner one night at the Poop Deck.  Great food!

Grilled snapper

Fried Conch (my absolute favorite meal)

Bill had his last day with us at Nassau!  Sorry to see him go!  It was fun having him with us!

Ed and I stayed an extra day to play tourist.  We took a city bus to down town.  Things are so very different here!  Along the way, the bus driver opened the door to buy some fruit from a street vendor.

There are some very poor and some crime filled areas in Nassau.  There were so many buildings with barb wire around them.  Here is a church with barb wire.

Even in Nassau they had a McDonalds!

DOWNTOWN NASSAU

We did a lot of walking around downtown Nassau.  This was the touristy part.  This was where the cruise ships docked and the people got to shore to shop and eat at the local places in town.  There were a lot of usual souvenir shops just like on the boardwalk in Ocean City and other coastal towns.  They had a straw market which housed dozens of vendors side by side selling things like straw hats, purses, dresses, wooden nick-knacs, etc.  Each vendor practically carried the exact same merchandise as their neighbor.  Some were willing to bargain, others not.  It was a fun place to go through, but be prepared to be pursued by the vendors at each place!

The policmen wore the uniform of the English of long ago.  Very handsome!

There were a lot of woodcarving artists working on their craft.
