Final week of prep has begun and ended!  It is bittersweet.  I am going to miss everyone terribly, yet, I am excited to do something so contrary to what we have ever done in our lives together!   Ed and I in a confined 32' boat, 41 years married, and occupying this small area for 6 months - are we nuts?  No, we are breaking out of the "mold" and taking life by the "horns".  Especially Ed (we don't have a set schedule, just going by what we want to do versus what the weather tells us to do), is really stepping out of the box!  To be willing to be as spontaneous as the winds allow is taking a leap of faith.  It will take a little while, I'm sure, for him to really be able to relax and let go of the things that "bind" him, but I have great confidence in him!  For me, he is the one that grounds me to reality, whether I like or not.  I will plan and plan and inevitably not see the whole picture.

So, the weather has already tested us and are having us question whether we go or stay put for a while.  Each day is a waiting game.  We postponed till Monday - now - maybe even later.  We will keep you posted!  The irony - one of the hurricane holes that we would sail to keep safe is our very own Oak Harbor Marina!   Perhaps this is a sign to stay put for a bit!

  3. Hope your marina is still there after Matthew blows through the Bahamas! But at least they have plenty of time to rebuild before you arrive. Safe travels!

  4. Glad to hear you and Ed are staying safe and waiting for Hurricane Matthew to leave. Otherwise "you'd need a bigger boat!"...especially after seeing Matthew's route on the map. We're all looking forward to hearing about your adventures on the deep blue sea!
