Dolphin House

This blog is solely on an amazing, one of a kind anywhere in the world (my opinion only) place that one person has built from the foundation up by himself, with an occasional helper, solely by upcycling material he found from construction sites that were being knocked down, to the beach about 1 block from his house.  There are not enough words to describe all that I saw!  There is hardly any area, both inside and out, that doesn't have some kind of art and creativity involved!  These photos don't do the place justice.  I hope that one day you may have the opportunity to visit this gallery of imagination!

Ashley Saunders has always lived in Bimini in the Bahamas, as well as his father and his father before him.  He is currently building a third floor which has already been given some of the Ashley magic touch!

It's of importance to the Bimini people that Ernest Hemingway stayed on the island (his hotel that he stayed in is behind our marina.

Every room is a work of art!  There are many more photos, but didn't want to overwhelm everyone.  If anyone would like to see the rest of the pictures, let me know and I will forward them to you!

Bimini #4

It turned out that 2 couples we met when we stayed in Oleta River State Park came to the same marina in Bimini as us and on the same day.  We called ourselves the Oleta Gang!

We took a trip with our gang to the northern part of the island.  We rented golf carts to get there.  What a blast!

Marilyn on left from Newfoundland and Louise from Maine (2/3rds of the Oleta Gang)

Beach of the Upper End of the island resort.
Men found their way to the lounge chairs!  The women had just come back from their toss in the waves!

The women returning from playing in the waves.  We were carried down the beach by some fairly strong currents.  Didn't stay in long!

The ride back to the boat along the High Rd. to catch a look at the water.

The water is very rough due an upcoming storm.

Bimini #3

My first trip to a Bimini beach with the Oleta Gang!  That blue water is breathtaking!

One in, Second One almost there, and the Third One not sure.

Third One says "OK! I'm coming in!"

Hail, Hail the Gang's All Here!

A Rum drink in a coconut shell!

A great way to end a swim!

Bimini #2

On one of our days in Bimini we took a ferry ride over to South Bimini.  We went with a bunch of other boaters from our marina.

A relaxed Captain!

Where we had lunch.

Special of the day - lamb chops

Our group!  We met so many more very nice people here!

One of the resorts in the area.

Bimini

We have arrived!!!

After getting settled with a nap and something to eat, we ventured out of the marina and explored some of the area.

A Memorial Park for Bahamian Veterans

BTC - Bahamas Telephone Company

This was in front the Bahamas' Telephone Company.  Haven't seen a phone booth in years!

The lizards here have the cutest curly tails!

All along the ICW I photographed water fowl.  Now in the Bahamas I will be taking more pictures of fish.

This is a tarpon.  I found it under our dock.  (Did he come to say hello?)

Another visitor was this Bull Shark.  It took me a couple of days to see one, but my patience paid off!  There were about 5 of them that would circle around the marina in the afternoon.

The only water fowl I've seen so far - my favorite pelicans!  They were patiently waiting for the scraps from the fishermen at the pier.

Had dinner at the Big Game Club.  There was live music and a dancer.  The dancer was someone who just came in once in a while to dance for everyone.  It was also his birthday!  It was a fun place.

To the Bahamas....

To the Bahamas......here we come!

Miami at night
A cruise ship in the night

Daylight is coming!  It's been a very long night!  3 hours sleep is not enough!

The ocean, though, was so beautifully calm all night!

A cruise ship sihouletted in front of the sun.

Good Morning!  Happy, but very sleepy!

Bimini!!!!!!!

change in the water color - the lightest blue is the shallowest.  It looked like a box of Crayola crayons in shades of blue!

My favorite - beaches!

Coming up to the Marina.

Our quarantine flag is up.  After docking, only the Captain can disembark the boat.  First, he had to go to Customs at the Big Game Club, then onto Immigration, and then the yellow flag comes down and the Bahama Courtesy Flag goes up (photo later).  We are officially in the Bahamas now, free to go wherever we choose!
